Depending on the design, similar cleaners could be mounted or incorporated into larger hand-operated mechanisms.

That explanation also solved the mystery of why Grandpa had kept such an odd-looking piece of iron for decades. It wasn’t a mysterious machine part or decorative object at all—it was a survivor from an era when maintaining everyday kitchen tools required equipment that most people today would never recognize. What looked useless to us had once been a perfectly practical household tool.
