Hurricane Watch Released: Tropical Storm Melissa Strengthens, Four Regions Brace for Impact

A powerful new storm is churning through the Caribbean, and it’s growing stronger by the hour. Tropical Storm Melissa has intensified rapidly, forcing meteorologists to issue urgent hurricane watches across four major regions as the system shows signs of turning into a full-blown hurricane within days.

According to early forecasts, Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic are now under threat. The storm’s winds have been accelerating, and its structure has tightened — a clear indication that Melissa is feeding off the warm tropical waters and could soon reach hurricane status.

Authorities are warning residents to prepare for torrential rainfall, flooding, and destructive winds. In coastal areas, waves are already swelling, with reports of rough seas and power outages beginning in isolated communities. “This storm is unpredictable,” one meteorologist said. “It’s growing stronger, and the window for preparation is closing fast.”

Emergency teams are being deployed, schools are suspending classes, and fishermen have been ordered to return to shore. Flights in and out of several Caribbean airports have been delayed or canceled as precautionary measures.

Experts say the next 48 hours will be critical. If Melissa continues its current trajectory, it could make landfall as a Category 2 or even Category 3 hurricane, putting millions at risk. The storm’s slow movement means some areas could face prolonged exposure to heavy rain and wind — the perfect recipe for flash floods and landslides.

For now, the Caribbean holds its breath as Tropical Storm Melissa barrels forward, growing more dangerous with each passing hour. Residents are being urged to stay alert, stock up on essentials, and follow all safety updates as the storm closes in.
